This monument depicting a dying lion, commemorates the Swiss Guards who were massacred in 1792 during the French Revolution. If you look closely, you might notice that the outline resembles a pig. Reportedly, there were not sufficient funds to pay the sculptor so, rather than not finish or damage the sculpture, he found a subtle way to show his displeasure.
