Freddie Mercury fell in love with the town and settled there in 1978, the year Queen bought the Mountain Recording Studios. His last album was recorded there. The bronze statue was placed in 1996. I happened to visit on the day of his annual birthday celebration, when fans came from all around to celebrate his life and music.
