The Historic Centre of Florence was the first UNESCO world heritage site in Tuscany. It is considered the cradle of the Renaissance. The city is like an open-air museum, full of sites of historic, artistic and architectural importance, such as the Florence Cathedral (Il Duomo di Firenze) at night. Construction of the cathedral began in 1296 and it was consecrated in 1436. The exterior decision was not completed until 1887.
